Place Luxembourg - where eurocrats drink

In the middle of the EU Quarter, surrounded by the European Parliament, lobbyists and public affairs offices, you will stumble upon Place Luxembourg. Whether you're a Chinese protester or a eurocrat inhaling fifty beers, this is the place to "see and been seen."

Monday through Friday, you will find "beautiful eurocrats" enjoying a refreshing drink after a long day of planning holidays/vacations and paper pushing in their office. Fridays are especially fun here because TGIF and also everyone is there - stagiaires, lobbyists, policy officials and students. All there to do one thing: get shit faced! In the summer, PLUX (short form) is so packed that people pour into the street. Surrounded by hundreds of people, speaking about 20 different languages, feels sort of like the Cannes Film Festival (without George Clooney and Harrison Ford of course). There is a special atmosphere on PLUX that one rarely finds in other corners of Brussels. This is the place where friendships, love affairs (there is a small hotel nearby that rents rooms by the hour), marriages and networking start. My husband and I met at Ralph's Bar on PLUX. Sounds cheesy I know, but it was one of those moments. Actually it was my first time drinking there and the rest as they say is history.

NOTE: Ralph's Bar is great because of the happy hour - two drinks for the price of one...scary

BEWARE: PLUX is completely dead on Saturday and Sunday (unless there is a special European football match showing at Fat Boys. Better to go to Rue Americaine or go downtown on the weekend.
